2008 Workshops |
Drawn
to the Surface During this twelve day workshop, we will explore
the layering of drawings on the surface of porcelain clay with
colors of under-glazes, cobalt blue and china paint over-glazes.
We will start as a group by producing as many small cups as
possible using both throwing and handbuilding techniques. We
will then use these cups as canvases for experimentation with
a variety of drawing and painting techniques. Each student will make enough cups so that each
cup will not feel too precious to play with or take chances
on. All cups will be bisqued, glazed with a clear glaze, and
then fired to cone 5-6 oxidation. During the cooling of the kilns, Akio and Kurt will conduct slides lectures covering the history of their work and influences as well as ideas about image and process. The participants are encouraged to bring drawings, photographs and ideas to incorporate into their work |
