Pots: Passion and Profession
with Robert Briscoe
November 8–9, 2014

This two-day hands-on workshop will be an opportunity to explore simple, functional pottery making. Briscoe’s work begins with the idea that pots are basically for food and flowers, and function is an inseparable element in the pot's composition. ‘Form first’ is the idea governing his pots and will be the primary theme of the workshop. Participants will discuss the continuing relevance of this idea in the 21st century. Topics will be range widely, from studio processes, equipment needs and work flow to the always touchy subject of selling pots for income and where and how to create a life in pots with a minimum of compromise. Participants will have a chance to try Briscoe’s throwing techniques for themselves.

Briscoe will give a public artist talk on Saturday, November 8 at 7:30 pm in the Bray Resident Center.
