This is a Stick Up!
Decal Making from Start to Finish
with Ayumi Horie and Andy Brayman
June 9–20, 2014

For this two-week workshop, participants will have an opportunity to work with two cutting edge ceramic artists featuring the tag team of Ayumi Horie and Andy Brayman. Students will investigate the types of drawings that work best as decals with animal drawings being touched on in particular. Horie and Brayman will talk about considerations of composition on a three dimensional object and the notion of multiples.

The workshop will begin with wet clay work (cone 6) and will quickly progress to explore the diverse world of decal printing including basic silk screening, laser-print sepia transfers and digital CMYK print decals. Techniques in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator will also be demonstrated to prepare images, make them print-ready and ultimately produce and fire water-slide decals. Students will be asked to bring glazed work on which to fire decals.

Horie and Brayman will give public artist talks on Wednesday, June 18 at 7:30 pm in the Bray Resident Center.
