Altered and Ornamented
with Kristen Kieffer
May 23–25, 2014

The focus of this three-day hands-on workshop will emphasize altering wheel-thrown or hand-built forms. Participants will embellish forms utilizing an array of decoration techniques from stamping and slip-trailing to sponging and resist work. The result can be functional or sculptural, minimal or extravagant. Participants will leave the workshop with a collection of new skills and the confidence to play and draw from their own influences. Demonstrations include throwing and altering, building off the wheel, darting, slip-decorating, stamp-making and stamping. Kieffer will discuss aesthetics and proportion, timing in clay, idea-generation and how to progress one’s own work with the techniques learned in the workshop.

Kieffer will give a public artist talk on Saturday, May 24 at 7:30 pm in the Bray Resident Center.
