| 65th Anniversary Bray Benefit Auction and "50's Flashback" Brickyard Bash June 11–July 23, 2016 |
Join us as we celebrate this milestone for the Bray during our 65th Anniversary Bray Benefit Auction and “50’s Flashback” Brickyard Bash on Saturday, July 23, beginning at 6 pm. This year we are taking it back to the beginning with a 1950’s theme . . . the Rock’n’Roll of Elvis Presley and Little Richard . . . TV shows like I Love Lucy and Leave it to Beaver . . . hot rods and drive-ins . . . Barbie, hula hoops and Play-Doh . . . Bring your poodle skirts, blue suede shoes and muscle cars and get ready to kick off the next 65 years of ceramic excellence at the Archie Bray Foundation. The Bray Benefit Auction—including Cup, Silent and Live Auctions—showcases work from more than 120 ceramic artists. Beginning on June 16, all auction items will go on display in conjunction with the opening reception for the 2016 Resident Artists Exhibition; bidding on the cup and silent auction items will begin the same day. The Brickyard Bash began in 1984 to celebrate the purchase of the Bray family brickyard and to thank the community for its’ support. Under the direction of Kurt Weiser, the acquisition of 25 acres allowed for new studios, improvement to the clay business facilities, and according to Weiser, opportunities for the residents to “stretch out and do things they never did before”. The annual Bray Benefit Auction is the Bray’s biggest fundraiser of the year and helps support the residency program. The Bray’s residency program supports artists by offering rent-free studios, subsidized material and firing costs, as well as direct funding through fellowships and stipends.
