2016 Voulkos Visiting Artist Fellow
The Bray is pleased to have New York City based artist Kathy Butterly as the 2016 Voulkos Visiting Artist Fellow. Butterly will spend a few weeks at the Bray in July. During which she will have an opportunity to share her knowledge and experiences as well as gain new ones. Kathy Butterly works in both sculpture and painting. Butterly received her MFA from the University of California in 1990 and her BFA from Moore College of Art & Design in 1986. She has been the recipient of several notable awards including the 2014 Guggenheim Fellowship Award, the Smithsonian American Art Museum Contemporary Artist Award in 2012, a 2011 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, 2009 and 1999 New York Foundation for the Arts grants, the Joan Mitchell Foundation: Painters & Sculptors Grant and the 2007 Anonymous Was a Woman Grant. Select museum collections include Brooklyn Museum, Carnegie Museum of Art, Currier Museum of Art, Detroit Institute of Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Museum of Modern Art and Tang Museum.

The Voulkos Visiting Artist Fellowship was created in memory of the renowned ceramic artist, Peter Voulkos. His family and friends established the Fellowship at the Archie Bray Foundation to invite a distinguished artist to work at the Bray each year. Peter Voulkos taught by example, working alongside other artists in the studio, fostering artistic exchange and dialogue, and nurturing mutual respect. In the same spirit, the Voulkos Fellow is invited to work in an environment that encourages interaction among the artists and the Bray community.
