Andrew Gilliatt, 2012–2013 Speyer Fellow,
2013–2014 Windgate Fellow Andrew Gilliatt's highly designed functional work is slip cast in a variety of colors and adorned with intricate patterns of custom decals. Andrew strives to make pots that are a reflection of the people, places and experiences he knows and loves. Andrew hopes to use his time at the Bray to make new work that expands on his current vocabulary of form, color, pattern and narrative. Andrew grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He graduated with a BFA in graphic design from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg in 2003. Later, he was a resident artist at Red Star Studios in Kansas City, Missouri. Andrew received his MFA in ceramics from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in 2011 and was a summer resident at the Bray the same year. Andrew received the Bray's Sage Scholarship in 2011, was the 2012–2013 Speyer Fellow and is currently a 2013–2014 Windgate Fellow. "Making pots is a way for me to reflect on the people and the places that I love. Every piece gives me the opportunity to reconnect with those experiences past and shared. Through this dialogue I hope to share something of myself with you." To see more work of Andrew's visit his website at www.andrewgilliatt.com. |
