Brooks Oliver, 2014–2015 MJD Fellow, 2015–2016 Windgate Fellow
long-term resident 2014–2016

Brooks OliverBrooks Oliver uses the ceramic vessel to convey his fascination with all the different aspects of illusion. He seeks to make the viewer question their assumptions; to construct a context around how they perceive what is happening; and to generate a moment where belief is suspended. Joining the Bray as the 2014 MJD Fellow, Brooks was excited to become a part of a community studio environment where he can further develop and enhance his artistic skills while also working to advance his career as an artist.

Brooks received his MFA in studio art with a ceramics concentration at Pennsylvania State University in 2014. While there, he also taught and acted as the ceramic technical assistant. He received his BFA in studio arts in ceramics and sculpture at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, in 2010, and then completed his post-baccalaureate studies at Syracuse University in 2012.

“My work attempts to blur the boundaries between craft, design, industry and technology, as I am fascinated with the charged grey areas between binaries.”—Oliver
