Chris Dufala, 2013–2014 MJD Fellow, 2014–2015 Anonymous Fellow
long-term resident 2013–2015

Chris DufalaChris Dufala's work combines graphic, figurative and sculptural elements in order to illustrate the contradictions and complications inherent in contemporary, materialist life.

Chris was born and raised in southern New Jersey. He received his MFA in spatial arts/ceramics at San Jose State University in 2004 and a BFA in ceramics from Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey in 2001. Chris has exhibited work nationally and abroad in both group and solo exhibitions and was an artist in residence at The Clay Studio of Missoula, Montana and Osage Artists Community in Missouri. Chris joined the Bray as a long-term resident and the 2013–2014 MJD Fellow. His second year at the Bray as the 2014–2015 Anonymous Fellow.

“I am inspired by illusion. It is the cornerstone of my building process and a catalyst for my conceptualization. My artwork is an organization of objects that reflect an imitation of reality. As a whole they represent a relationship between domestication and the natural world. Their physical appearance belies their actual ceramic nature, much as the objects they represent belie their waste and convenience. This notion of deception is important to me as it resonates with everything in this world I find dishonest, contrary and generally lacking integrity. I am not trying to find a solution, but simply commenting on that which I observe.”
