Teacher as Artist—Artist as Teacher with Julia Galloway June 17–23, 2018 Tuition $465 (includes $65 lab fee) Maximum enrollment 15 Open to artists of all skill levels This seven-day workshop is designed
for k-12 teachers who are
interested in working with clay in the
classroom or who hope to introduce
clay into a curriculum. Focusing on
creativity and problem-solving using
ceramics in the classroom, the week
will consist of developing project and
curriculum ideas, daily
demonstrations
by Galloway, lively conversations, slide
presentations and time to work with
clay. Participants will develop skills
and ideas through handbuilding, wheel
throwing, solid sculpture construction,
relief tiles and slip decoration.
Resources regarding historical and
contemporary ceramics will be
available for reference
and inspiration. |

Julia Galloway is a potter,
administrator, arts advocate and
professor of art at the University of
Montana. Her pottery is influenced
by historical ceramics and inspired by
narratives of her surroundings. She has exhibited and lectured across the U.S. and Canada. She earned her undergraduate degree at New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in Alfred, New York, and her graduate degree at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Galloway’s work appears in many collections, including the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution. Galloway is a former resident artist, Visiting artist and current member of the Archie Bray Foundation’s board of directors. |
