2015 Workshopback to workshops |
A Painterly Approach This two-day hands-on workshop will focus on surface decoration using slips and underglazes. Participants will embellish ceramic pieces such as tiles or pots. Utilizing an array of decoration techniques — such as using slips like oil paint or underglazes like watercolor — the results will be functional or sculptural, minimal or extravagant. Participants will leave the workshop with a collection of new skills and the confidence to play and draw from their own influences. Demonstrations include altering flat surfaces to enhance the three-dimensionality of a painting, layering underglazes and creating lifelike scenes and vignettes with color and dramatic outlines. Lee’s work primarily draws from nature, plants and the landscape. She will discuss her classical painting training in the East and how it has been influenced by her life in the West.
